You're not in this alone: Exploring 10 reasons coaching could work for you.

When I was in my late twenties, I hit a wall. I was a new mom of two babies who were born one year apart. I had stopped working for the first time. I had moved to a new city, where I knew no one and had no family closer than two-hours drive. And finally, I was asking myself some very difficult spiritual questions. To say I was confused just doesn't cover it... I was in an emotional, spiritual, and mental tar pit. I was stuck. What I didn't know was that there was a process within reach that could pull me out, I just needed someone to help me see it. Oh, friends... I found it, I loved it- the good and hard, the tears and joy, the release, all of it. I can't wait to share it with you.

What I found was there was no way I was going to get out of the tar without help. I had the rope in my hand, I just needed someone to help me tie it to something in order to help me get out. That is what Coaching did for me. It helped me realize I was holding the rope and tied it to something that allowed me to get out of the stuck space I was in. For me, the rope was the narrative I was running on a loop in my brain that colored all of my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I found myself talking through those thoughts- primarily fear or shame based- with a trusted mentor, and in that process she helped me to work through my life-story. She coached me.

Here's the thing. I am a former therapist and consider therapy to be invaluable- I recommend everyone try it! I had my own therapist for years. I did grief recovery, trauma therapy and family of origin work. I had processed my past and was in a healthy and well functioning place. I was just stuck and overwhelmed by questions, anxious thoughts, and self-doubt brought up during the transition of moving and motherhood. By entering into the process of self-exploration in the safe space of a coaching relationship, I was able to gain clarity about how the narrative I developed in early childhood influenced the way I saw myself, my relationship with God, and my relationships with others in the present. I could see how thought and behavior patterns developed and were never challenged. I could see the fluidity of my strengths and weaknesses and identified strategies to access and apply them. I could see the progression of my passions that helped me identify my God given purpose. Most impactful for me in that particular season were the questions I asked about God- the why's and how's about His role in my story and my place in His.

So, what was the result? Change. Release. Understanding. Truth. I found out then what I want to tell you now. That narrative formed all those years ago- it may not be true. As a matter of fact, it can and should be challenged... even changed. And as a Coach I want to help you do it. If you want to check out more about my approach of story-driven coaching, click here.
